Meet Mr Masahiro Shigeta

Born into a confectionery wholesaler in Shizuoka, he grew up surrounded by sweets from a young age. Developed an interest in photography and pursued it as a major in an art university.During his student years, he was captivated by the allure of foreign lands, embarking on extended, budget-travel journeys primarily through Southeast Asia for photography purposes. While still a student, he engaged in various roles, serving as a photographer, writer, designer, and eventually editor-in-chief in a student venture. Subsequently, he made the significant decision to succeed his family's confectionery wholesaling business. After gaining insights into retail through studies at Don Quijote(Discount store), he returned to his family's modest confectionery wholesaler, called Amanoya.

Amidst the challenges of business growth strategies, he abandoned the wholesale business and ventured into the retail sector with a franchise of retail stores specializing in confections. Presently, the company operates approximately 20 stores across Japan, contributing to the preservation and continuation of traditional confections. In an era where transient products come and go in major retail outlets such as Don Quijote, convenience stores, and 100-yen shops, he upholds the concept of "Long Life Design."

Cherishing and handling products rooted in tradition, brimming with the artisanal dedication that has existed since times of old. While inheriting these traditions, he leverages his expertise in art and design to redesign confectionery wholesaling and candy stores, optimizing Japan's confectionery culture for the modern age. His aim is to elevate this culture to the next level.

Impressions of FUJI ZEN GOODIES

In Japan's confectionery industry, numerous small and medium-sized manufacturers exist alongside major players. Among them are manufacturers operated by just one person, or perhaps by a pair of grandparents. These establishments bring forth unique techniques and regional confectionery cultures distinct from those of larger corporations, offering a continuous series of delightful discoveries. The allure of Japan extends beyond the well-known major manufacturers based in Tokyo.

Sweets born from the harsh cold of Shinshu, treats crafted from the sugarcane fields of hot Kagoshima, and confections enjoyed by children with runny noses – these products evoke the essence of Japan's landscapes. We aspire to deliver these confections not only within Japan but also to everyone in the World, enabling them to savor the fullness of their deliciousness and contribute to preserving the enduring traditions rarely seen on the global stage.
